STARTING SALARY:         $22.50-$26.50/hourly

Vineyard’s small team is growing rapidly!  The Planning Department is seeking a Planner to expedite the implementation of department work plans and programs related to long range and/or current planning.

Principal Duties: The Planner fills a crucial and important role in the Community Development and other City departments and provides excellent customer service. Duties may include but are not limited to: 

  • Conducts research, prepares staff reports and makes presentations on project proposals to the Planning Commission, City Council and other boards and committees as assigned.
  • Develops planning studies and reports in support of new and updated plans, programs, and regulations.
  • Updates City demographic information and works with the US Census Bureau as needed.
  • Processes, tracks, analyzes and makes recommendations on a wide variety of development applications.
  • Assists with grant writing and tracking.
  • Oversees development application review for current planning processes.
  • Assists with writing land use regulations and policies, identifies key stake holder groups; drafts new regulations; presents new regulations to Planning Commission and City Council for adoption.
  • Assists with the update of Vineyard General Plan and Zoning/Subdivision regulations.
  • Serves on committees associated with the City on a as needed basis.
  • Performs frequent customer service and provides front counter representation for the City.
  • Assists with, and at times, may manage code enforcement processes.
  • Attends meetings, many of which are in the evening, for the above-mentioned public bodies to take minutes, operate audiovisual equipment, and provide administrative and technical assistance.
  • Responds to GRAMA requests and other applications as assigned.
  • Updates the economic development and community development websites.

Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, public administration or a closely related field
  • 2-3 years of experience in city planning or closely related field. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be evaluated for qualifying experience on a case-by-case basis.
  • Experience with various computer programs.
  • Communicate (verbal and written) with the public and governmental officials.
