Youth Pickleball Instructor

Description: The Vineyard City Recreation Youth Pickleball Clinic Series is scheduled to run on Fridays between June 7th – July 12th at 8am, 9am, 10am, and 11am, all held at Vineyard Grove Park. Work schedule flexibility may be available, with an estimated commitment of approximately 4-5 hours per week.  Each session will consist of 5 instructional sessions, with 25 minutes dedicated to reviewing skills and 25 minutes of gameplay. The 6th session will culminate in a tournament. Each clinic session will accommodate a maximum of 16 participants, with 1-2 Coaches per session. There will be three sessions for 8-11 Year Olds and one session for 12-14 Year Olds. 

The Instructors will work under the general supervision of Vineyard City’s Recreation Coordinators. Responsibilities include teaching participants the rules of the sport, developing basic skills such as forehand, backhand, serves, positioning, net play, volleys, promoting good sportsmanship, and assisting with set-up and clean-up for each clinic day.  Instructors are expected to be positive role models for youth and foster their overall development through pickleball.  Effective communication with Vineyard’s Recreation Coordinators is crucial for a successful season.  Each hired instructor will receive in-person training before the 1st scheduled day of instruction to ensure knowledge of gameplay rules and skills. Additionally, a mid-season evaluation will be conducted by Vineyard Recreation Staff.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
  • Great public relations, customer service, and organization skills
  • Ability to work with all ages of youth and adults
  • Physically capable of instructing activities (running, jumping, swinging paddle) and lifting 25+ lbs.
  • Aptitude for following basic safety precautions and procedures
  • Ability to make sound decisions in sometimes stressful environments
  • Instructor(s) must have general knowledge of pickleball rules and be willing to learn. Prior instructing experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work Friday mornings as assigned by Vineyard’s Recreation Coordinators (flexibility may be available)
