Youth Tennis Coach

Description:

The Vineyard City Recreation Youth Tennis League season will take place between June 3rd – July 16th. The 10-14 Year Old Boys Division will hold matches on Mondays at various locations in Utah County from 9am-11am, with practices on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Vineyard Grove Park from 9am-11am. The 10-14 Year Old Girls Division will have matches on Tuesdays at various locations in Utah County from 9am-11am, along with practices on Monday and Wednesday mornings at Vineyard Grove Park from 9am-11am. Each division will have two teams with one coach and a maximum of 12 participants per team. The season includes 4-5 matches, followed by a post-season tournament. Work schedule flexibility may be available, with an estimated commitment of approximately 6-15 hours per week. 

The Tennis Coach will work under the general supervision of Vineyard City’s Recreation Coordinator. Responsibilities include teaching participants the rules of the sport, developing basic skills such as forehand, backhand, serves, positioning, net play, and volleys, as well as fostering good sportsmanship.  The Coach is expected to be a positive role model to youth.  Effective communication with Vineyard’s Recreation Coordinator is essential for a successful season.  The hired coach will receive in-person training prior to the 1st scheduled day of coaching to ensure knowledge of gameplay rules and skills. Additionally, a mid-season evaluation will be conducted by Vineyard Recreation Staff.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
  • Great public relations skills and customer service skills
  • Ability to work with all ages of youth
  • Physically capable of coaching activities (running, jumping, swinging racket) and lifting 25+ lbs.
  • Pass a background check
  • Aptitude for following basic safety precautions and procedures
  • Ability to make sound decisions in sometimes stressful environments
  • Coach must have general knowledge of tennis rules and be willing to learn. Prior coaching experience is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work Monday - Thursday mornings, as assigned by Vineyard’s Recreation Coordinator (flexibility may be available)
  • First Aid certified preferred, but not required
